We are a travel company esthablished in 2022, however, our management team has been organising these trips for more than 20 years and has deep roots within the region. The management of our tour previously worked for other boat charters in the area, but a fresh start was felt to be needed, in order to provide the quality of service desired by our customers. This new business also allowed us to draw from our experiences and expertise to tailor-make the ultimate adventure tour.
Our story started in 1992 when our first tour guide mister Parhan, current vice-president, travelled the Indonesian ocean for 7 days and 6 nights to discover the Komodo dragons with foreign travellers. After one year, the current president of Kareem the Explorer, mister Hayatullah joined him in his travels. Together they explored the endless ocean, wild nature, and stunning views Indonesia has to offer, all on a small boat. Hand in hand they created the 4-day, 3-night tour that exists today, and still allows foreign travellers to discover whale sharks, komodo dragons, turtles, dolphins, and many other exciting experiences that Indonesia has to offer.
To date, Mr Parhan & Mr Hayatullah are still working together as the main leaders of the company and have now managed to involve most of their Lombok community to help in the team making the tour the definition of a community-oriented business.
The current company is much larger than its humble beginnings, operating with multiple charter boats and delivering tours for over 180 travellers a week!
Ultimately, Kareem the Explorer is now a huge collaboration of our incredible staff including the captains, tour guides, bus drivers, agents, vegetable man, cooks, marketing team, and many more – all locals from Lombok or Flores!

We as a company are thriving and aiming for various job opportunities for the locals of Lombok. We believe everyone should have the chance to work and learn under fair circumstances. Even though Indonesia is ranked as the 10th largest economy in the world, many families still live in poverty (Worldbank, 2022). Therefore, we train people from lower social-economic statuses and create different job opportunities within our company: as we say in Indonesia ‘’Bersama’’ – together.
Although we are a profit-based business we endeavour to include all locals of Lombok to earn their part by working on fair commission-based rates. We also invest in education and sports for the children of Lombok, creating better opportunities for the younger generations.
Our organisation
While we at Kareem the Explorer are solely a boat charter organisation, there are many touring businesses/agents in Indonesia who organise and plan different trips for you! That is why Kareem the Explorer works together with them and therefore everyone can earn their contribution through Kareem the Explorer. Again our mission is ‘’Bersama’’.
